grey sheep aside the flock, beside scorned shepherd once pearl, peregrine, opal. then tamed, turned, tinged coal colored now cautiously kept outside wary and worn, still woolen.

also: i see that alliteration! i think it's interesting in this piece in particular because, contrary to its usual delightful uses for me, here it rly helps drive home the emotions and their weight. i feel like the alliteration of "tamed, turned, tinged", for example, combines with the rhythm of those three words in quick sequence to make really me feel the othering of our grey sheep. as if each of those words acts as its own slap in the face
